...with the Exec Producer still a-slumbering, to the kitchen, to sing the newly written lyrics for a piece, "Super 8", into the hand held recorder...
Once again, I am looking to utilise one of Mr Spark's newly created backing tracks as inspiration...
All in all, my work this morning created a "combined" vocal track which, when added to the backing track was rather disappointing...
Oh well...

I have been invited to play at Club Nitty Gritty as Cloudland Blue Quartet on 26 October (you may recall I played there at a Neil Young tribute night back in June, or you may not, but I did, I assure you)...
Anyway, after discussions with the EP, I decided to play this solo and indeed to feature all new songs...
It's a 40 minute set but the new LP is currently a CD stuffing 80 minutes...
So, what was I doing?
I was firstly going back to all the mixes done so far and judiciously editing each track into a new, shorter, formation...
Then I recorded new vocals for each of the twelve songs and produced a new mix for each of the twelve...
And lo, by the end of the day after, all told, around 15 hours' work, it was good...
lyrics
When I walked into the gallery and I saw your Super 8
I wanted to go back to all the places we'd found great
All the bars and all the clubs and the discotheques and stuff
Where we'd really got to know one other, where we'd fallen in love
And down among the trees, at the farthest point from here
We'd so enjoyed the sunshine, though we lived in constant fear
That everything we knew and loved just teetered on the brink
There was nothing we could do we knew, however hard we'd think
We tried cure and cure and cure but nothing seemed to work
While others thought all was ok, they could not know what lurked
How everything was turning black and nothing could be done
We could not see beyond the clouds, we could not see the sun
And then one day we'd had enough and we called that day a day
And though we knew it would be tough, we kinda knew we'd be ok
For in the long run all's for naught and nothing's left to say
And all we're really looking for is another happy day
I thought that might be what I'd found when I saw your Super 8
But I knew way down deep inside I'd lost everything that's great

A quartet in name only, initially influenced by Fripp & Eno's "No Pussyfooting" and The Velvet Underground's debut,
songwriter & soundscaper David Reilly started musicking in 1977 by creating drones using sellotape on the keys of his dad's Bontempi Organ. The subsequent junk shop purchases of an electric guitar & fuzzbox and the acquisition of an old Beatles songbook, led him into songwriting......more
Great group of guys and they bring out a mammoth album here full of rich tones and a swash of sound that pulls you in and you hit replay at the end of the album. Brilliant! OddsFiche
