about

Track 2 from the Cloudland Blue Quartet LP "Saturn Sleet Rise Effect"

This LP started out as a 3 minute mix, based on stems provided by Da Tengo God as part of a "best mix competition".

In the event, the majority of the stems were discarded and only a couple of rhythm tracks and some noise ("Sleet") were utilised in CBQ's mix, which also contains elements of his 2016 version of the seminal 1977 composition, "The Drone Effect".

The CBQ track won.

The piece has now been extended to create a two sided LP alongside the two original mixes (with and without Da Tengu God's stems) which were made available to download via WeTransfer for 7 days from 21 March 2023.

For downloaders, the further six elements which, along with the two original mixes, comprise the full work, are made available as stand alone pieces, as is the "clean" version of the LP (i.e. without the field recordings) and a 37 minute continuous clean mix of the full work, giving a download bundle of almost 2.5 hours.

about

Cloudland Blue Quartet Edinburgh, UK

A quartet in name only, initially influenced by Fripp & Eno's "No Pussyfooting" and The Velvet Underground's debut, songwriter & soundscaper David Reilly started musicking in 1977 by creating drones using sellotape on the keys of his dad's Bontempi Organ. The subsequent junk shop purchases of an electric guitar & fuzzbox and the acquisition of an old Beatles songbook, led him into songwriting... ... more
