about

Last song of the collection. With drummer Johnny Weitzen laid low by Covid, the rest of Capital Models convened at Crispycat Towers to run through our sets for a subsequently cancelled Xmas charity fund raiser. I recorded my three colleagues with no vocal or guitar from me and no rhythm track (though all three were playing at the time). To create this, I slowed them down, took the underlying ambience of their playing and added a new rhythm track and a re-recorded vocal. A second version rounds off this whole collection in the bonus section, which features the boys more to the fore, at the correct speed and with the rhythm track to which they were playing. It includes the same vocal as this track but speeded up. So neither version features us all performing at the same speed... Baby, we're out of time...

lyrics

Jenny said, when she was just five years old
There was nothin' happening at all
Every time she puts on the radio
There was nothin' goin' down at all, not at all
One fine mornin', she put on a New York station
Couldn't believe what she heard at all
She started shakin' to that fine, fine music
You know, her life was saved by rock'n'roll
Despite all the amputations
She could just dance to a rock'n'roll station
And it was all right, it was all right

Jenny said, when she was just five years old
“My parents’ll be the death of us all
Two TV sets and two Cadillac cars
Well, you know, ain't gonna help me at all”
One fine morning, she turns on a New York station
Doesn't believe what she hears at all
She started dancin' to that fine, fine music,
Her life was saved by rock'n'roll
Despite all the computations
She could just dance to that rock'n'roll station
And it was all right, it was all right

Every time I put on the radio
You know, there's nothin' goin' down at all, not at all”

Cloudland Blue Quartet Edinburgh, UK

A quartet in name only, initially influenced by Fripp & Eno's "No Pussyfooting" and The Velvet Underground's debut, songwriter & soundscaper David Reilly started musicking in 1977 by creating drones using sellotape on the keys of his dad's Bontempi Organ. The subsequent junk shop purchases of an electric guitar & fuzzbox and the acquisition of an old Beatles songbook, led him into songwriting... ... more
