We were running along the beach like there was no tomorrow
And today was the only thing that mattered in our lives
The sun was in the sky and we saw dolphins in the bay
Nothing they could ever say could ever take this feeling away

We had driven to the coast to enjoy the sunny weather
We could not have known what was on its way
But the clouds rolled in from the south and the sand blew in our faces
And we ran back to the car to shelter from the waves

The houses started crumbling and falling into the sea
And the cliffs tumbled into the waves and you stood and looked at me
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, the rain, the wind, the water and the tide
All conspired against us as the planet caved right in

And then I heard the ice cream van and I knew it was a dream
I'd drifted off in my deckchair, drifted off into dream
And everything was good and everything was fun
And today was the best thing that we'd ever, ever done

As the sun went down above the cliffs we walked back to the car
And we took our litter with us as we set off for afar
And soon we were back home and we sat down by the telly
And we'd had such a lovely day and so we sat and rubbed our bellies
