Love and War 03:44
LOVE AND WAR When I look into the mirror what do I see? A little man with horns laughing back at me Should I swing to the left, should I swing to the right It's not as if one's as bright as day and one's as dark as night Love and war, what's the score, there's the door, tonight? I don't know if it's wrong or if it's right To sing this kind of song here tonight Does anybody out there really know the truth? Why do I feel as if I'm out of step with the march of youth? Hey Mr Burning Man, what you going to say? Are you going to try and speak our language today? Can you please explain what goes on in your head? Before so many more of us wind up dead
2.
THE CROCODILE SONG When people come and people go, they can't see me but I still know Cos I can see their bodies' glow, and I can hear their voices low Crocodile I am and crocodile I'll stay, hiding in the sand on a sunny day Listening from below as they pass by, bodies in the sun, hazy in my eyes I want you, and I need you, here and now You can't see, but you want me, here and now - I'm a crocodile Crocodile I am and crocodile I'll stay, so let me take your hand on a sunny day I know you want to be with me, even if it seems like something else to you

HALF A LIFETIME AWAY On a day half a lifetime away, I recall like it was just yesterday I walked down to the town. All my friends were just hanging around Not a single shop was open And the weather forecast predicted oven-like conditions But we'd secured our supplies the day before From the drummer's mother's shop, the grocery store As we made our way to the top of the hill, I remember thinking to myself This is a day I won't easily forget. This is the way I want to remember them The friends I once knew, now all but one are gone Just a memory from half a lifetime away As we sat around the smouldering fire, in the woods at the top of the hill Drinking beer and shouting at the top of our voices We were so young and so full of hope We made our way back, down to the town Messed around on the banks of the stream Running with the trains on the railroad tracks Then over the bridge to the May Day Fair

VERY SMALL A big shiny car, and everything's safer now for you, it's all taken care of now for you Born under a star, and only the best will ever do, it's all taken care of now for you You're always surrounded now by loving arms, there's no way you'll ever come to any harm Cos they can't see you and they can't touch you and they can't feel you at all Now you're kept away from everyone and out of sight of everything And you don't know anything about anything at all but you're still so very small

Deeper Down 05:02
DEEPER DOWN I found your letters yesterday. You used to have so much to say But now I never hear your voice at all Your picture's hanging on my wall. Your coat's still hanging in the hall But now I never hear your voice at all And since the day you went away, you know I can't stop thinking about you, and I can't stop wasting my time I built up my whole life around you And my heart is slipping deeper down these days Without you around. Without you I burned your letters yesterday and then I threw your coat away And now I never think of you at all Cos I've met somebody new, someone to take the place of you Someone who knows what I need Now I can't recall that look within your eyes And I don't think about you at all now and I'm no longer wasting my time Now I've built up my life again without you And my life is getting better every day Without you around. Without you Who am I kidding when I say I don't care? I've been pining like a baby ever since you left My heart is breaking cos you're not here I've been wishing that you'd walk back thru the door
7.
The Gardener 02:29
THE GARDENER You sit in the sun on an old easy chair with a well-leafed book in your hand Your head is exposed and so are your legs and your handiwork lies all around Purple and yellow and even some black I wonder where you get them all from You look so relaxed with the sun on your back As I work upstairs on this song Suddenly you rise and you look to the skies You decide you must lop off some heads You come quickly indoors, find a knife in the drawer And before they can move they are dead Purple and yellow and even some black I wonder where you get them all from You look so relaxed with the sun on your back As I work upstairs on this song Now you prowl all around listening out for the sound Of an over-excited small dog And you pull at the plastic and it feels just fantastic As you make your way in from the fog Purple and yellow and even some black I wonder where you get them all from You look so relaxed with the sun on your back as I work upstairs on this song

THE BEAUTY OF A FOREIGN LAND It's OK if you don't understand the beauty of a foreign land Take your pick from the map on the wall, if you go, don't come back Out on the open sea uncovered for all to see, out on a ship on your own It's OK if you can't say what you feel, deep down inside today Off you go, please don't wait, on your own, off you go, don't be late Out on the open sea uncovered for all to see, out on a ship on your own Here it comes again, another wave of pain I never wanted this, I never wanted it to be like this So won't you please, won't you please just let me go? It's OK if you don't understand the beauty of a foreign land Off you go, please don't wait, on your own, off you go, to your fate
9.
Snowfall 04:41
SNOWFALL I was thinking maybe I'd leave, cut my heart right off my sleeve But do I really want to break away from you? Am I really trapped in this place, always feeling like a fool in your space? Am I really so alone? Loving you and wanting you and holding you but somehow feeling used On a Sunday, in a snow fall, in my castle, am I really so alone? Now I'm looking out my window. I see the rocks and the trees below Do I really want to throw my life away? I'm searching for a hint of your face. I need to make my way back to our space I can't be this alone Loving you and wanting you and holding you but somehow falling through On a Sunday, in a snow fall, in my castle, I can't beat this alone Walk the path to the end of the rainbow, never thought that I could be so low Is there no way back from here? And through the haze of drugs I see you shining like an angel in the sky And I don't feel alone Loving you and wanting you and holding you and needing you On a Sunday, in a snow fall, in my castle, we'll never be alone

THE DAY YOU WENT AWAY Open up your heart cos I find this hard to take You know I hope that you find what you're looking for I woke up today just the same as any other day Now you've gone I find it hard to understand Day by day, we grew together so symbiotic. Cage in cage, poor psychotic you One on one, for such a time it was so fantastic But the only thing you had left was the pain coursing through your veins It's too hard to laugh for fear of crying You know there's so little time to live for fear of dying Look at all we achieved, for so many years And we had so much still to give, all our hopes and fears But now I feel I'm in a play, called "The Day You Went Away" You were the special girl, too large in life to replace so quickly Across a crowded room, we'll be together soon And we'll live our lives again at full speed, we'll be really something All along, we'll live our lives our very own way I'll give you candy from the sweet shop on the corner I'll give you flowers from the fruit shop on the corner I'll give you presents from the gift shop on the corner I'll give you everything that you have ever longed for
11.
Keep Living 03:15
KEEP LIVING When we're thinking that we'll never smile or laugh again Something always comes around Like walking hand in hand across the sand on a summer's day Under skies without a cloud We learn to love and we love to live and we give our love all we can give It's another happy day We give our love and we live to love and hope that we'll forgive the love Cos love will always find a way Keep living, keep loving, forgiving not forgetting And time goes on and we move on with memories in our hearts We're not looking to forget But hold the love inside our hearts and celebrate what we still have Our lives aren't over yet Walking hand in hand, out across the sand Love will find a way, another happy day Walking through the snow, now at last we know Love will find a way, another happy day
12.
ANYTHING BUT ILL You come out of the light with holes for eyes You're so deaf you think no one could possibly hear your cries As the tears roll down your face How you wish we'd never come to this place And you walk out on your own Now you'll never see the sun And time for you stands still Will you ever feel anything but ill? You step out of the light with holes for eyes And smoke rises to the sky As the tears roll down your face How you wish we'd never come to this place As you struggle from the ambulance you can only feel the light And you walk out on your own How you wish we'd never come And time for you stands still Will you ever feel anything but ill? And you walk on your own Now you'll never see the sky And time for you stands still Will you ever feel anything but ill?
13.
ONE LAST SHOW You can walk upon the water, you can turn it into wine Make the river run with black gold but you'll never prove you're mine Take away the magic, take away the tricks You're never going to tempt me with the promise of one last fix Here we go, nice and slow, one last show, tonight I've seen you dancing with the man with the tail And I'm never going to trust you, cos to trust you is to fail I've seen you walking hand in hand with the man in black Your promise is seductive but it's a stab in the back
14.
WHERE ARE YOU You used to come round every day I couldn't keep you away and I took that for granted But now I never see your face from day to day to day And that's not what I wanted And now it's hit me, how much I loved you I want to see you here again The garden's overgrown with weeds They've choked off all the seeds we planted at the start Now the wind blows thru the fences and eats away at my defences But can I save my heart Cos now it's hit me, how much I loved you I want to see you here again Where are you, where are you now, When I'm needing you - like I've never needed anyone before Now I miss you around, how I miss you around I never look into the mirror, cos I know just what I'll see A shadow of my former self staring back at me Ever since you went away, my life's been such a mess If you saw me now, you'd know it's true, you couldn't fail to guess The breaking of my spirit, the taking of my soul I'm left behind without a light, just waiting here to go Where are you, where are you now, When I'm needing you Now I miss you around, how I miss you around You used to come round every day I couldn't keep you away and I took that for granted

VERY SMALL A big shiny car, and everything's safer now for you, it's all taken care of now for you Born under a star, and only the best will ever do, it's all taken care of now for you You're always surrounded now by loving arms, there's no way you'll ever come to any harm Cos they can't see you and they can't touch you and they can't feel you at all Now you're kept away from everyone and out of sight of everything And you don't know anything about anything at all but you're still so very small

about

Cloudland Blue Quartet Edinburgh, UK

A quartet in name only, initially influenced by Fripp & Eno's "No Pussyfooting" and The Velvet Underground's debut, songwriter & soundscaper David Reilly started musicking in 1977 by creating drones using sellotape on the keys of his dad's Bontempi Organ. The subsequent junk shop purchases of an electric guitar & fuzzbox and the acquisition of an old Beatles songbook, led him into songwriting... ... more
