The download version of "Silversounds 1996-2021 (Remakes)" contains a further 160 minutes of music. If it were to be available in physical form, it'd be a 4CD release - including all thirty of the soundscape edits used in the creation of the brand new remixes in the collection, only available on download. If burning your WAV files to CD, each disc will contain 15 tracks, from 1 through to 60 (note that due to mis-editing on my part, you may only be able to fit 14 tracks onto each disc but, with the WAV files and some CD-Rs, the world is your oyster...
"Silversounds 1996-2021 (Remixes)" is a companion collection to the "Silversongs 1996-2021 (Remakes)" set, also available on Bandcamp, with the two albums being released simultaneously, on the 25th anniversary of the first CBQ release.
The recordings featured on this collection are brand new soundscapes created from edits of original works recorded and released over the last 25 years under the name Cloudland Blue Quartet.
Whilst bringing the "Silversongs" project to its conclusion, since it's probably fair to say that, over the last few years I've probably become better known for my soundscape work than my songs, I decided to create a companion collection of new soundscapes but, like the song collection, basing the new versions on past releases.
I took edits of thirty pieces from thirty albums, from "Events One & Two", released on 10 June 1996, through to "Dissolution", issued 2 April 2021 and applied my current ambient mixing techniques to each one to create new works which, of course, reference the original tracks.
I worked quickly, with all the remixes being created over three days in April 2021, while bringing the "Silversongs" project to a conclusion and just after finishing work on "Sparklemusik", the latest song-based album by CBQ (and the first since 2012's "Starlightnight, discounting last years experimental "Disquietsongs").
Downloaders have the opportunity to make direct comparisons between the new soundscapes and the edits on which they are based, as they will have access to the thirty edits used in the new mixes.
The new pieces are based on the full 25 year history (thus far) of Cloudland Blue Quartet, with the first soundscape stemming from 1996 and the last ten having been released over the last 2 years or so, since the conclusion of the recording of the instruments which appear on "Silversongs".
I hope you enjoy this journey across the years and that hearing these pieces might take you to the originals, all of which are still available in their original form on their source LPs, here on Bandcamp.
Rewinding twenty five years can, indeed, also be looking forward
Time flies...

songwriter & soundscaper David Reilly started musicking in 1977 by creating drones using sellotape on the keys of his dad's Bontempi Organ. The subsequent junk shop purchases of an electric guitar & fuzzbox and the acquisition of an old Beatles songbook, led him into songwriting......more
