about

This project came about from an experiment by Cloudland Blue Quartet on the music of Edward Spark, when, with a view to CBQ carrying out some remix work, Spark sent CBQ the stems of his two EPs "1.9.7.Four" and "1.9.7.4.Two", released in March and June 2021 respectively and available at edwardspark.bandcamp.com.

CBQ's initial idea was to remove almost everything from the Spark music with the exception of sequenced synthesisers and to, in CBQ's words, "make Edward Spark sound like Tangerine Dream".

Several mixes were completed in July 2021 once remixing work on the masters had been completed (two of these early mixes are included here as bonus tracks for downloaders - #F28500 references the pantone for tangerine).

For background on CBQ's initial work, see these diary entries:-

CBQ returned to the project at the end of October 2022 and added field recordings and elements of his Disquietmusik guitar to proceedings, thus creating a brand new collaboration between the two artists comprising their own signature sounds.

about

Cloudland Blue Quartet Edinburgh, UK

A quartet in name only, initially influenced by Fripp & Eno's "No Pussyfooting" and The Velvet Underground's debut, songwriter & soundscaper David Reilly started musicking in 1977 by creating drones using sellotape on the keys of his dad's Bontempi Organ. The subsequent junk shop purchases of an electric guitar & fuzzbox and the acquisition of an old Beatles songbook, led him into songwriting... ... more
